Sea Kayaking

The Community Boating Center (CBC) and Shifting Gears partner to offer weekly sunset paddles on Bellingham Bay.

The CBC provides experienced staff that will lead the sea kayaking adventures and provides all kayak and safety equipment. Shifting Gears provides the fun!

When

Every Wednesday, 5:30-7:30, starting April, 2026 through September 2026! The paddles are available on a sliding scale (including free), and CBC requires you to register beforehand via the calendar below (and donations are always appreciated).

*Paddles are rain or shine, but CBC will cancel them if conditions are unsafe!

Where

Meet at the Community Boating Center at 555 Harris Avenue, Bellingham. The paddles launch from CBC and meander along the coast.

Who

This paddle is about creating a community and removing barriers within the sport of paddling. We want to create an inclusive and empowering environment that allows growth and joy.

FAQs

You'll need to bring appropriate clothing for the weather conditions, sunscreen, a hat, water bottle, snacks, and any personal items you may need. We'll provide the kayaks, paddles, and safety equipment.
No prior experience is necessary. Our paddles are designed to accommodate paddlers of all levels, including those who are completely new to kayaking.
The CBC will provide kayaks, paddles, and safety equipment for our paddles. If you prefer to use your own equipment, please contact the CBC first.
Pre-registration is required to ensure that we stay within our group capacity. Registration for each paddle opens on Wednesday the week prior and can be found below.

Registration for each paddle opens at 5:30pm on the Wednesday before. We highly recommend securing your spot early as availability tends to fill up fast. Don't hesitate to join the waitlist if spots are filled!
