Get ready to explore the fundamentals of backpacking on a scenic overnight trip to Baker Lake! Join us on Saturday & Sunday, June 27-28 for a beginner-friendly introduction to overnight travel in the North Cascades.
This trip takes us along the beautiful Baker Lake Trail, where we’ll hike through lush old-growth forests, cross bubbling creeks, and enjoy occasional views of Mount Baker and surrounding peaks. The trail follows the eastern shoreline of Baker Lake, offering a peaceful setting ideal for learning essential backpacking skills.
Participants can expect daily hikes of approximately 3–5 miles with minimal elevation gain, making this an accessible and enjoyable experience for those new to backpacking. Campsites are located along the lakeshore, providing opportunities to relax, practice camp setup, and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
Throughout the weekend, we’ll cover key skills including packing and gear selection, trail navigation, campsite setup, Leave No Trace principles, and backcountry safety.
