Intro to Bike Touring - San Juan Islands

Registration is required and will open in August.

Ready to try a self-supported bike adventure? Join us for an overnight in the scenic San Juan Islands, designed to introduce the fundamentals of bike touring while carrying everything you need on your bike.

We’ll meet in Anacortes (with a carpool option from Bellingham) before boarding the Washington State Ferries to Lopez Island. From there, we’ll ride together to Spencer Spit State Park, carrying our own gear, food, and camping essentials. Once camp is set up, we will ride around the island without our gear—enjoying little towns and scenic stops along the coast.

This program emphasizes self-sufficiency in a supportive, approachable environment. You’ll learn how to pack and balance your bike, plan and manage your food and water, handle basic repairs, and navigate a simple touring route. With mellow island roads, ocean views, and a relaxed pace, it’s the perfect setting to build confidence for future bike adventures.
