Curious about camping? Join us for an all-women’s Intro to camping and basecamping experience at Swift Creek Campground, located along the scenic shores of Baker Lake.
This beginner-friendly, one-night overnight is designed to introduce the fundamentals of camping in a comfortable and supportive setting. We’ll set up a shared basecamp and spend our time learning essential skills like tent setup, camp organization, meal preparation, and Leave No Trace principles—without the need to hike in with heavy packs. Short, optional walks in the surrounding area offer opportunities to explore the forest, enjoy lake views, and build confidence outdoors at your own pace.
Expect a relaxed schedule with plenty of time to connect, ask questions, and enjoy the peaceful setting. Whether you’re brand new to camping or looking to refresh your skills, this program creates a welcoming space to learn, unwind, and experience the outdoors together.
Packing Party: We will have a mandatory packing party on Friday, June 12 at Backcountry Essentials from 6-8 pm. This is a great time to bring ALL the gear you are planning on bringing on the trip (we will send a packing list) and to grab gear you will be borrowing from us! We will also discuss logistics, food, and the plan for the weekend.
Gear: Shifting Gears will provide group gear like tents, tarps, cookware, clean up bins, etc. We will have a gear list for you to pack before the trip of personal items. Items available to borrow will be sleeping bags, sleeping pads, camp chairs (limited) and large backpacks for packing in if needed.
Food: Shifting Gears provides breakfast and dinners, while participants are expected to pack their own snacks and lunches. We will take into account dietary allergies and restrictions when making the menu!
