Day Hike - Lake 22

  • 298 West Laurel Street Bellingham, WA, 98225 United States (map)

Registration Open

Join us for this guided day hike with Shifting Gears as we explore the diverse trails of the North Cascades!

On Saturday, July 18 you are invited to our first day hike of the summer season to Lake 22. The curiously-named Lake 22 is the center of an oasis of alpine wetland nestled on the northern shoulder of Mount Pilchuck in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The hike to the lake combines the best of mountain rainforests, old-growth, wetlands and mountain views, yet it is readily accessible.

Our hikes are designed to be supportive, inclusive, and adaptable, with experienced leaders helping the group move at a comfortable, enjoyable pace. Shifting Gears day hikes are barrier-free, community-focused experiences that include transportation and encourage connection, confidence, and fun outdoors. Come ready to embrace changing terrain, build skills, and enjoy a full day immersed in nature with a welcoming group.

Lake 22 Trail is a 5.4-mile round trip with an elevation gain of approximately 1,350’. This hike is easy-to-moderate in difficulty as there are rocky sections and some shallow creek crossings, but it is a well-marked and maintained route. As a group, we embrace challenges, celebrate each other's strengths, and take our time to enjoy the journey, with plenty of breaks to appreciate the beauty around us.
