Gravel Ride - Canyon Lake

Registration is closed and will open in September.

Join us for a Shifting Gears gravel ride as we explore scenic backroads and mixed-surface routes in a supportive, all-women environment. Like our road rides, these are no-drop group rides focused on building confidence, working through challenges, and enjoying the journey together. Expect a full day of riding at a relaxed pace, with mileage and terrain that may include rolling hills, packed gravel, light single track, and quiet rural roads. Come ready to learn, connect, and have fun while expanding your riding skills beyond the pavement.

This challenging gravel ride begins in the town of Welcome near Deming. From there we will ride a flat stretch of pavement in a scenic river valley before climbing a well groomed gravel road to a pull off where we can walk a short distance to Racehorse Falls. From there, we get back on our bikes and turn onto a gated gravel road —this is where the fun begins! The climb has some steep, loose sections but is rideable. It becomes more gentle but steady as we go. We will make our way to Canyon Lake Community Forest, where we can stop and enjoy a serene, quiet mountain lake and admire some old growth and fossils. We will then descend down a windy, bumpy road, on some short single track and back to the paved road that takes us to our car!

This is considered an advanced gravel ride. It covers 22 miles, with 2700 ft of elevation gain. Shifting Gears does not provide transportation to the start, unfortunately.

Any bike that can ride on hard packed gravel and well groomed single track trails is welcome. This route has quite a bit of climbing, so functional shifting and low gears are recommended.

More details can be found on our Road Ride website page.
