Intro to Backcountry

Shifting Gears & Grounding Truth are excited to partner to offer an Intro to Backcountry one-day program for a small group of women interested in taking the first step in their backcountry education.

This immersive experience is designed to offer a “first step” for riders interested in learning more about backcountry travel and all that goes into a successful tour.

Prerequisite: 5 days on skis or snowboard, inbounds, or out-of-bounds.

Gear Required: AT Skis or Spitboard, Boots, Skins, Poles, Beacon, Shovel, Probe, Backpack, can be personal equipment, rented, or borrowed.

Rentals are included in the course, and specific equipment needs will be asked about in the application. The American Alpine Institute generously provides equipment.

Cost: $110.50 ($100 plus tax and card processing fees)

This program covers topics primarily about intro-level backcountry craft, decision-making, and foundational avalanche awareness.

Whether you’ve only had a few or no days in the backcountry, this program offers unparalleled opportunities for skill development and community connections in a safe and supportive environment. Space is limited to 5 participants.
