Weekly Mountain Bike Ride

  • Galbraith Mountain Bellingham, WA, 98226 USA (map)

Beginner Registration Closed
Intermediate Registration Closed

Shifting Gears’ Mountain Biking programs are weekly group rides with an inclusive space to explore mountain biking on the lovely local trails of Bellingham. We practice skills, familiarize ourselves with trails, meet new ride friends, and have fun!

When: Our weekly mountain bike rides are on Mondays of each month from 5:30-7:30pm, from May through September (except holidays). Rides are rain or shine, but we will cancel them if conditions are unsafe!

Cost and Registration: The rides have a tiered pricing system. We always have a free option, with a $15 sustainer option as well that helps us run these programs. Donations are also always appreciated. We require you to register beforehand at the link that will be posted above. These will open up two weeks before each ride.

Where: We’ll explore the beautiful trails of Galbraith Mountain together! Depending on the week, a group may meet at the North or Southside of Galbraith or Transition Outpost for our Demo Wednesdays.

Who: The rides are for all women (cis, queer, trans) ages 18+, regardless of riding experience, body size, and biking anxiety. With a maximum of 8 riders plus two Shifting Gears Leaders in each group, it is a no-drop ride, and we will focus on having fun and supporting each other.

Ride Levels: Please review ROAM Fest Skill Levels to determine your skill rating. Our rides are no-drop, and we always go at a steady and chill pace. That being said, our Beginner Rides are considered for Levels 2 and 3, while our Intermediate Rides are for Levels 4 and 5. You'll register in advance for your preferred group.

Transition Demo Days: We are excited to announce we will be partnering with Transition for a Demo Day! On these days, we will not run our typical Beginner and Intermediate rides. Instead, we will run a “True Beginner” Ride, which will focus on skills for those who have never ever mountain biked, and a “BegIntermediate” Ride for riders who are feeling really confident on the greens but are looking for a slower pace and more development on the blue trails. Anyone is welcome to attend either ride—even if your skillset exceeds the riding goal—but know that the purpose of these development rides is aimed at improving the confidence and skill of folks who are looking to step into our typical Beginner and Intermediate Monday rides.
